Can anyone recommend a fair credit card for people with poor credit who are on the road to reestablishing it?
November 7, 2009 - Does anyone have first hand positive experience with a secured or nonsecured credit card company in this regard?
Not sure how poor your FICO is, what you make, etc. so I can't name a specific card.
I suggest going to:

You will see a tool that allows you to compare the best credit card rates for whatever you value.
Pick 2 or 3 and apply and see if you can get a card. If you have no luck, you may need to go the secured card way, which means you have the money in the bank and a low limit. This way they are sure they are getting paid. After a while, when you've made regular payments, etc. the limit rises, you don't need the "security" feature, and you can get regular credit.
Sometimes going through a credit union could also be more useful--find one locally that you qualify for and ask. This will help you find what credit unions are around for you locally:

Good luck.If you have poor credit, it is very unlikely that you will find a credit card with a decent interest rate. Poor credit = high risk = high interest. Find a major credit card without an annual fee. You may even have to get a secured card (you deposit $X as collateral). Use the card but only charge what you can pay in full and on time each month. That will give you a good payment history which is the best cure for poor credit.
I would suggest trying your luck and applying for 2-3 cards at the same time. Apply for the cards for 1 Capital One, 1 First Premier and maybe 1 American Express -- see this page - cards for those with "fair" credit: http://www.credit-land.com/1018/1018_page_13372_689589.php
If you can't get a credit card because of poor credit, go for a secured credit card. Which means your credit is whatever you have in their account. If you open up an account with $500, then $500 is your credit limit on that card. Yes, I do know it's difficult to do when you don't have the funds. And yes, I do realize that it doesn't seem like much to work with. But trust me, it'll help you build your credit history. Your credit report doesn't say that it's a secured credit card. Just make sure you keep up with the payments. Build up some credit. Eventually you'll be able to get an account that isn't secured. It takes some time, but it is worth it.- Reestablish credit? What you need to do is learn how to manage your finances correctly. Get on a strict, written budget, and pay cash for everything. As long as you commit to spending less than you earn, you'll always succeed financially.
